Blog Assignment 7

The Network Students
The Networked Student

I thought this video was very  informative. The video was cute and straight to the point. I believe that connectivism is a great theory to follow to some extent. Students are taking part in a learning opportunity. This type of learning allows the student to independently learn and make a large PLN. The student is able to learn from the experience of others. The video lists several sites, apps and activities that students can have access to. For example, itunes U that lets you subscribe to podcast and other useful sites. A students can subscribe to the best lectures in the world on itunes U.

By building a PLN, a student gets many views of the subject they are learning. They are able to communicate and work on projects with others around the world. As the saying goes, "two heads are always better than one." You can learn more information from many different resources. By blogging, people are able to share their ideas on a subject and help other students as well.

I am not for totally subtracting the teachers out of our school experience. Although learning is becoming more independent, teachers are still needed. Connectivism still allows teachers to be needed and help students. It never hurts to ask for help. Teachers need to stay updated on new types of technology in order to help the students be prepared for the future. Teacher help students in acquiring a bigger PLN. Also, teachers are there to assist students when they get stuck. The teachers help students determine good information from bad. Students should have the option of having a teacher there to help them along their learning experience. Teachers are role models that guide the students into exploring a wide range of connections.

Wendy Drexler's ideas are interesting. I too believe that this type of learning can be incorporated into the curriculum and meet its standards. The students are able to create topics and still follow rules at the same time. There should be limits on what age group can access what sites. The teachers have to protect students from inappropriate content. There should be time set aside for teaching organization, digital literacy, and technical By allowing the students to become a networked student, teachers are balancing structure to maximize learner motivation (points/grades/supervision).

A Seventh Graders PLE
This students PLE is bigger than my PLN. She defiantly has a lot of more tools  she can access. Her PLE seems more organized than mine. Although, I just started so hopefully I will get the hang of it.

  1. This is a well written overview of A Networked Student. I really loved how you said,"two heads are better than one." I can totally agree with that, because one person don't know it all. We as teachers do need each other to grow in knowledge and experience, as well as, we learn from children.

I didn't really find any errors besides a few grammatical mistakes. Good job and keep up the good work and hopeful success in elementary teaching!

  2. "...was quite informing." informative instead of informing.

"...The video list several sites,..." lists not list.

"...Wendy Drexlers ideas are interesting. I to believe..." Drexlers should be Drexler's and to should be too.

"The teachers have to protect students from inappropriate content." Shouldn't the goal be to teach students how to make the correct choices to protect themselves? And to do so? Certainly more difficult than being a guard, but much better I think.

"...to become a network student, ..." networked not network.

    Proofread!

    Thoughtful.
