David King on Alberta's Education Act Part II.

This blog post was written by David King and was posted February 21.  Mr King's blog post was his response to a Education Act that was proposed in Alberta, Canada where he lives. He stated that the act gave liberties but then in the next section of the act it was taken away. He said that the act put Alberta, Canada  in the past and did not give any hope for pressing into the future.
I wrote saying his post was very interesting. I agree with his statement on how the act puts Alberta, Canada into the past rather than the future. The government should be supportive and want to push forward. The act seems to counteract itself. Each section to the act gives excellent ideas that are soon to come, but the next act limits the previous. He  voiced his opinions in a way that  helped others see the good and bad of the act.

Is reading good homework?

In this blog post, Joe bower brings up the question: "is reading good homework?" He displays how he believes homework is something that inspires and is not assigned. He brings up the point that we need to  ask how this will affect the child's desire to learn.  Joe Bower says, we need to not only care about whether children can read, but whether they want to read.

This is my comment to the post.  I agree that before we assign homework, we need to ask ourselves "how will this effect this child's desire to go on learning?" I believe reading to some extent is just busywork. We have to make sure the students like to read. Children are not going to read if they are not interested in the subject matter. Reading is not fun for everyone. Also, some children read but do not understand the subject matter, so it is like they didn't read anything at all. I like the phrase "we need to care about whether children want to read at least as much as whether they can." We need to make sure children want to learn and advance in their intellectual skills. Teachers need to motivate their students to learn. This was an interesting and great post.
